CalArts Interdisciplinary Project Grants – Request for Proposals, Spring 2010
Posted October 14, 2009 | No Comments | Print This Post
The Interdisciplinary Project Grants are designed to support interdisciplinary, collaborative student projects. Projects that challenge formal conventions and that are experimental in process or approach will be given the strongest consideration. Compelling interdisciplinary projects involve a dialogue, merger, or collision of disciplines. Projects that are more conventional will also be considered, but will not take priority.
Eligibility
Interdisciplinary Project Grants are available to students who will be enrolled at CalArts during Spring 2010. Students who have not yet received an Interdisciplinary Project Grant will be given stronger consideration than those who already have. Individually led and/or solo projects will be considered, but please note that collaborative groups of at least two people generally have the most successful proposals.
Deadline
The grant application deadline for Spring 2010 is Friday, November 20, 2009 at 5:00 p.m., via hardcopy, to the Office of the Provost. Proposals received after that time will not be considered, nor will proposals submitted via email.
Timeline
Projects must be completed (with all receipts turned in to the Office of the Provost) by June 15, 2010.
Award Amount
Grants are available for up to $1,500.00. Please note that funded projects might not be awarded the full amount of the request. Grant recipients will not receive a lump sum; rather reimbursement will be made upon the submission of a list of expenses with explanations to the proposed budget line item with original receipts attached. Students may make up to two reimbursements requests, and the first reimbursement request must be at least half of the award amount.
Proposal Instructions: Please use the following numbers to organize the elements of your proposal.
- Contact Information List the full names, programs, Schools, email addresses, phone numbers and CalArts mailbox numbers of each member of your group.
- Project Description Attach a project description of no more than 400 words (about 1 page). Include in your project description the specific elements that make your project interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experimental.
- Exhibition Plan Indicate when and where you expect the project to be exhibited, performed or shared.
- Faculty Mentor List the name of a faculty member who has agreed to serve as a mentor for your project. This person will be given a small honorarium if your project is given funding.
- Budget Attach an itemized budget. Budget line items can be combined into general categories (film, equipment rental, etc.). Students cannot request funds to pay themselves, although fees for outside labor may be considered. Students cannot request funds to purchase equipment that can later be for personal use (such as computers or hard drives); gasoline (though mileage is acceptable); or food (unless food is used specifically in the project itself). If the budget for your proposal exceeds $1,500, please include the entire budget and then indicate the amount that you are requesting (up to $1,500).
- Supplementary Materials Supplementary materials can be up to two 8.5” x 11” pages (black and white, suitable for photocopying). Other materials will not be accepted.
