TENURE-STREAM APPOINTMENT IN THEATRE (COSTUME STUDIES)

The Department of Theatre at Dalhousie University invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment for a costume designer at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2010. The successful candidate will design costumes for all four productions in the Dalhousie Theatre season. He or she will also be expected to teach in at least two of the following areas: the design, history, and/or creation of costume and dress. Qualifications expected are MA, MFA or equivalent degree and professional theatre experience as a costume designer. Evidence of strong teaching ability at the post-secondary level is an asset. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010.

UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA – LINCON IS SEEKING AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LIGHTING DESIGN

Description of Work

The person filling the position would teach Lighting Design courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; mentor/supervise graduate and undergraduate projects and theses; supervise the sound design area; recruit students; serve on committees; perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the School. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to design for the University Theatre and/or the Nebraska Repertory Theatre seasons. The successful applicant will be expected to continue to work professionally and to maintain a national profile in the discipline.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, COSTUME DESIGNER/TEACHER
TENURE TRACK POSITION

Duties include: Teach two courses per semester and design costumes, make-up and hair for four main stage theatre productions and one dance concert per year in an active Theatre and Dance Department with a strong commitment to Liberal Arts training. Supervise student design assignments. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in Costume Design, Make-up, History of Clothing, Introduction to Design, Textiles, Patterning and Introduction to Theatre. Opportunity to develop courses in related areas of interest. Department has shop and wardrobe spaces and a full-time professional Costumer/Shop Manager. Previous university level teaching experience, including online courses is expected. Knowledge of appropriate computer programs for design. Candidate will be expected to be active in continued professional development with professional off campus work. Previous experience with KCACTF design projects will aid the candidate.

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ACTING DEPARTMENT OF PERFORMING ARTS – SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY

The Department of Performing Arts at Southern Oregon University invites applications for a full-time, nine month, tenure-track position in the Theatre Arts program beginning in September of 2010. This is an undergraduate program of over 230 majors, offering BA, BS & BFA degree options. As a key member of a strong performance faculty, the prime responsibilities for this position would encompass teaching the core acting curriculum in the pre-professional acting program. Expertise in and an ability to teach additional specialized acting courses such as Shakespeare, period styles, voice & stage speech, playwriting, clowning or other areas of specialization are also desired. All teaching in the department is focused on a traditional liberal arts undergraduate education as a central tenet of the University’s core mission. Non-teaching responsibilities will include participating in curricular development, departmental and university committees, as well as possibly directing in the department’s production program. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated faculty, working in a well-regarded theatre program that is a dynamic part of a collaborative, arts-oriented community, which includes the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  A terminal degree (MFA) is required along with significant professional and academic teaching experience. Salary is commensurate with position, rank and responsibilities.  All applications must be received by January 4, 2010 to receive priority consideration.  Late applications may be considered, but only at the discretion of the committee.

This story of the friendship of Langston Hughes and Cuban poet Nicolas Guillen is a Co-Commission of The Towne Street Theatre and The Robey Theatre Company. It is written by Bernardo Solano and directed by TST Artistic Director,Nancy Cheryll Davis.

Moira MacDonald, MFA 1 in Puppetry, co-wrote and co-directed The Sparkly Winter Christmas Holiday Hanukkah Nogstyle Christmas Show! Now playing at Velaslavasay Panorama.

Ian Garrett, communications assistant, alum (MFA 08 Producing, Lighting Design) and part-time faculty, is traveling at the end of this week to Copenhagen, London and Prague to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference, Future Arcola Launch and to prepare for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial, respectively, as the Executive Director of The Center for Sustainable Practice in the Arts.
