It is with great pleasure that I cordially invite you to the Hollywood performance of my original work Silken Veils, appearing at the Art|Works theater June 24th @ 10:30 pm, June 26th @ 5pm, and June 27th @ 2 & 5pm. Please come out to support the first public performance of this interdisciplinary piece that was developed entirely by CalArts performers and designers.
Silken Veils is a turbulent, sometimes humorous, tale of the strength and weaknesses of love and revolution. This piece combines Rumi poetry, marionettes, table top puppetry, live performance and animation. In this 45 minute work, Darya struggles with love in the United States while reliving her childhood in Iran during the Revolution of 1979 and the Iran and Iraq war. The set is comprised solely of suitcases and veils from which all puppets and objects emerge—a literal illustration of Darya’s struggle to unpack the baggage that we all carry.
Admission is just $12.00! For pictures and trailer and a link to purchase tickets please check out the show’s website at: www.silkenveils.net.
Silken Veils will be traveling to the Eugene O’Neill Puppetry Conference as well as the Hollywood, Edinburgh and Chicago Fringe Festivals. Please considering donating to Silken Veils Kickstarter site at http://kck.st/aXuSRW to help us reach our goals of spreading dynamic uncompromising theater across the United States and beyond!
